Business News 14th April 2025
Bondaval has expanded their underwriting and legal functions with experienced hires from the industry
These experienced hires will help meet existing demand, prepare for future growth and develop new product offerings

LONDON, 14 APRIL 2025 – Bondaval, a leading insurtech specialising in technology-enabled payment default protection, has strengthened its team with a new head of legal and compliance, as well as two additional underwriting hires to grow their presence, and meet existing demand for their products.

Tim van Kampen, the incoming Head of Legal and Compliance, joins Bondaval from Clyde & Co, where he was a Senior Associate advising on trade credit insurance and capital relief insurance solutions for banks. Prior to that, he spent 15 years at Atradius, supporting their global expansion and licensing, as well as identifying trends, leading product development and drafting policy conditions for new insurance business.

Van Kampen also has a wealth of experience negotiating complex cross-border and intra-merger transactions, as well as advising on transaction structure and contractual terms to secure new business.

At Bondaval, he will spearhead the development of the legal requirements for sector- and application-specific product development, as well as supporting the company’s expansion and product launch across new jurisdictions.

Jonathan Cristaldi joins as Senior Risk Underwriter, reporting to Paul Collier, Bondaval’s VP Risk Underwriting. Cristaldi brings over 13 years of credit risk underwriting experience, having previously held risk underwriting roles at insurers Nexus Trade Credit and Allianz Trade. He has an extensive background in credit analysis across both emerging markets and advanced economies, alongside experience conducting in-depth reviews of country, sovereign, industry and counterparty risk.

Most recently, Cristaldi was Senior Credit and Country Underwriter for Stenn International, where he led credit analysis for key transactions, as well as managing the company’s country risk committee.

At Bondaval, he is responsible for building in-house analytical capabilities, working closely with the Commercial team to review new risk opportunities and monitor existing portfolio performance.

Jack Staniforth also joins Bondaval as a Commercial Underwriter after 4 years at QBE as a Trade Credit Underwriter, where he was responsible for new business across the UK and Ireland. Working closely with David Stevens, Head of Commercial Underwriting, UK & Europe, Staniforth will focus on continuing engagement with Bondaval’s network of partner brokers across UK and European jurisdictions, as well as supporting the growth of Bondaval’s trade credit insurance and non-payment guarantee product lines.

Bondaval continues to grow at pace following the introduction of its trade credit insurance product in the UK and Europe in July of last year. In May 2024, the company also announced the launch of its first risk-bearing vehicle, Bondaval Re, underscoring the company’s long-term commitment to underwriting excellence.

We’ve seen tremendous demand for our products, especially since launching our trade credit insurance offering in the UK and Europe. Expanding our Underwriting teams has been a strategic priority to meet this demand, while bringing additional experience into the Legal function will give us even more flexibility to capture market opportunities. These new hires also reflect our ambitious expansion plans for Bondaval’s growth over the coming months. It’s certainly an exciting time for Tim, Jack and Jonathan to join us.
